Germany, the birthplace of the automobile and a nation long synonymous with automotive innovation, has officially entered a new era in transportation. For the first time in history, electric vehicles (EVs) outpaced traditional petrol and diesel cars in sales within the country, marking a pivotal shift in the automotive landscape.
EV Sales Surge in June
The Federal Motor Transport Authority reported that 84,057 new electric vehicles were registered in June, representing a staggering 78.2% year-on-year increase. This milestone puts battery-electric vehicles at 28.4% of the total market share, significantly outpacing all other fuel types. Traditional hybrids followed closely with 83,315 registrations, or 28.1%, while petrol and diesel cars saw declining numbers at 60,796 (20.5%) and 33,862 (11.4%) respectively.
