How ToolGrad Works

By structuring the generation process this way, ToolGrad ensures that the resulting datasets are not only diverse but also highly accurate and usable for training and evaluating AI systems capable of tool interaction.

Performance and Accessibility

The framework's effectiveness is further demonstrated by its performance on benchmark tests. A Gemma-3-12B model fine-tuned on just 500 samples from ToolGrad achieved an impressive score of 83.1 on the BFCL benchmark, closely matching the performance of Gemini 2.5 Pro at 83.2. These results highlight the efficiency and quality of data generated by ToolGrad, even with limited training data.

Google has made the ToolGrad framework, along with its accompanying code, datasets, and models, publicly available under the Apache-2.0 license. This open-access approach is expected to accelerate advancements in tool-use AI and foster broader research collaboration in the field.
