Sila, a battery materials company previously known as Sila Nanotechnologies, has secured $300 million in a private equity round to accelerate the production of silicon anodes at its facility in Moses Lake, Washington. The funding round was led by Atreides Management and Sutter Hill Ventures, with participation from 8VC, Bessemer Venture Partners, Matrix Partners, and T Rowe Price. Existing investors including In-Q-Tel and others also joined the investment effort.
Expanding Domestic Battery Production
The company's silicon anode technology is a key component in next-generation lithium-ion batteries, offering significantly higher energy density than traditional graphite anodes. This advancement is crucial as the U.S. seeks to strengthen its domestic battery supply chain, particularly in light of growing demand for electric vehicles and grid-scale energy storage systems.
